Scope of work
A cultural event curated by a team of local, national and international artists, it is held annually to coincide with the total lunar eclipse.
Originally approached by Melbourne Festival in 2019, our first task was to develop a brand narrative that gave meaning to the name ‘Rising’, a narrative that used the moon and its celestial cycles as its muse.
Developing a suite of simple lunar forms, choosing an instantly recognisable typeface, and selecting an electric blue colour palette to reference the moons shimmering, winter gloam; the identity has helped to position Rising: as the one of the most talked about creative festivals in the Southern hemisphere.
“MAUD brought clarity to the process of defining not just what our brand identity would convey to others but also encouraged us to dig deeper into what stands behind the public facing output. We found the team to be passionate, informed and interested in communicating creatively and clearly.”Hannah Fox, Creative Director for Rising:

and Rising:A cultural event curated by a team of local, national and international artists, it is held annually to coincide with the total lunar eclipse.
Originally approached by Melbourne Festival in 2019, our first task was to develop a brand narrative that gave meaning to the name ‘Rising’, a narrative that used the moon and its celestial cycles as its muse.

The logo is comprised of a wordmark and customised colon, a subtle nod to the Moon’s celestial cycles.

We chose an elegant serif typeface that could be arranged in a variety of ways to feel simultaneously contemporary and idiosyncratic across applications.

A bespoke image treatment was developed to ‘own’ artist supplied imagery.

The final identity bathed the once cold and empty streets of Melbourne in an exciting electric blue light. A bold, bright beacon that heralded the resurgence of art, performance and music to the inhabitants of the city.

Bespoke lanterns hung throughout the city as markers for events.

Renowned local artists were approached to create event merchandise, further leveraging the Rising: identity.
