Scope of work
Championing its Indian heritage, Sār Studio is a product and design studio based out of Pune, India. Maud’s relationship with Sār was born out of a process of cross cultural collaboration at Fabrica: the design and research center of Benetton in Italy.
Sār crafts contemporary product and furniture design for an Indian market, inviting international graphic and product designers to collaborate with their studio for a global perspective and interpretation of India. To this effect Maud designed the brand identity, printed matter and ecommerce site as an investigation into the juxtaposition between the east and west: heritage meets utility.
The translation of Sār (Soul in Hindi) became the starting point for the identity, with the logo paying homage to the Indian Bindu whilst steering clear of clichés. The typography combines the utility of a sans serif with the charm and decoration of a monospaced serif, time-stamping Pune’s postcode and date in a playful nod back to origins and inspirations of India.
“MAUD's work is beautiful, traversing between identifying the right design values to technical finesse. We enjoyed every aspect; research, ideation and execution. ”Nikita Bhate, Founder and Creative Director, Sār Studio
